PHILOSOPHY

When I'm in the classroom studio, my world is transformed from painter to observer/facilitator. What I communicate is nothing less than my own complete and resounding commitment and enthusiasm in the legacy and continued pursuit of painting and drawing. Exposing students to a range of potential subject matters, materials, and sources of inspiration, I hope to allow each individual a means by which to grasp the fundamentals of learning to see and to take the steps necessary to move them forward towards their goal/vision.

Working from life, understanding perception, copying masters, exploring the complex components of visual memory.... these are all central pieces to the puzzle. But they are only tools. The real value comes from an ablity to access the work and the student at their current state and understand what it is that individual needs to know at this particular moment in time.

I look to success in a class as being able to maintain the variety of individual aesthetics and goals while imparting more general information and tools that students need along the way, providing the gentle push or deliberate shove that might be necessary.
